Duality... Without the darkness there could be no light. One cannot measure the scope of goodness without making it stand back-to-back with it's shadow. Everything has a shadow, no matter how big or how small. Chaos is constant change, renewal, replenishment, though it could just as easily be destruction. Order keeps it in balance, providing reliability and a firm shape for the raw energy of change, though it could also be looked at as stagnation.
Applied to the muses, this means that for every muse inspiring great tales of heroism and valor, there must also be a muse inspiring dark tales of horrifying acts. So perhaps nine sisters means that there are likewise nine sisters on the other side of the mirror?
