When I read The Archives, I found many ominous references to a being simply called the Hunger.
I found some information about him and because it is now believed he has a strong part in all of this, I may as well tell you about him.
The Hunger was created by an unknown party. No one has ever been able to discover its origin, and a theory that it has always existed as some sort of universal force is strongly gaining momentum in popularity. Some say it doesn't even exist and that an abusive group of Gods (or some other powerful group) use the idea and illusion of it to intimidate.
The Hunger can be anything it wants to be. It knows all that has happened, is happening, and will happen. It knows no fear and has no vulnerabilities. It lives eternal. It is the only being that can travel between every universe in the Everything ("...for our world is merely a book in an infinite library." - P:78). It consumes what it wants to. There is no pattern to what it feeds on. Once it devours you, you are (supposedly) melded into a form of existence composed of eternal pain and confusion, though no one can really confirm or deny that. No one knows why he consumes, but a joke theory is that "it's just hungry."
It is believed by many that it has voluntarily taken the form of a human in this universe. The purpose behind this is as mysterious as anything else about it. It has supposedly not fed for some time. Many beings claim that when it feeds, they can feel something break away from our world. Of course, this very possibly may be a ploy for attention or some sort of placebo effect felt by gullible creatures.
As of now, it is seemingly non-threatening, but its place in the war is not known. Anyone who could somehow draft it to their side would be practically guaranteed as the victor. Well, if it even exists.
Omens point to it coming into the war soon. It will make its presence known in a devastating way. It will changes its method greatly. It will rise above many others. Its motivations are not known. Its purpose is not known. It's effect, however, is believed by many of the best overseers in this universe to be one that will put a severe dent into what defines reality. I shudder to think what would happen if it opens up a connection to another universe.
Know that, if we face the Hunger, we will lose. This is the only scenario I know of that is completely hopeless.
